To perform dental care and manage the administrative functions of the dental department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Day-to-day direct supervision/coaching of Dental Hygienists, including hiring/firing authority and performance appraisals in coordination with the CDD. Assure assigned site hygiene productivity and efficiency and evaluate hygiene clinical quality, making use of reporting data to drive decisions and strategies for quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI). Work in coordination with Dental Hygienist Team Managers (DHTMs) at other sites to share best practices. Work in coordination with the CDD and Dental Operations Director (DOD) to develop and implement organizational and clinical strategic plans, ensuring that dental hygiene is an integral part of a forward thinking and visionary dental program. Orientation, education, and training (assisted by Operations and Human Resources (HR)) of new dental hygienist providers, including EDR. Management of dental outreach activities in coordination with VPDS, CDD, and DOD, including leadership and partnership on site-level integration with other lines of services as they relate to the Hygienist on the Pods program. Exhibits positive leadership skills, actively striving to improve the patient and staff experience of Clinica, as well as strong communication skills, including willingness to grow and develop skills in motivational interviewing. Maintain own dental hygienist practice as defined by the Clinica guidelines. Maintains own administrative schedule as appropriate, leveraging administrative time to maintain optimal dentist in-clinic FTE when possible or necessary. Share responsibility with the CDD, DATMs and other staff assuring an appropriate clinical interface between dental sites. Responsible for appropriate management of complaints directed at hygienist team, involving CDD, VPDS, and DOD as appropriate. Oversee relationships with dental hygiene schools in conjunction with the VPDS and CDD. The VPDS will identify a single DHTM to serve as the Dental Infection Control Officer (DICO) for the organization, for whom the responsibilities are: - In conjunction with Medical Infection Control Officer and/or Nursing Services, routine monitoring of internal data and surveying of external reports to identify trends in safety and infectious control practices related to the dental practice to implement internal improvement and training as needed.- Onboarding of all new dental clinical staff members (at same site) with direct patient contact or involved in dental infection control in expected processes and practices to ensure patient and staff safety. - Completion of routine observational tours of dental sites infection control procedures for patient and staff safety and compliance with professional and clinical standards.- Planning and implementation of periodic training of dental clinical staff members with direct patient contact or involved in dental infection control according to identified areas of need or new infection control processes with the support of the medical infection control officer, Nursing Services, and VPDS. DHTMs who are not the DICO are responsible for serving as site-level point of contact for dental infection control policies, procedures, and systems, working in conjunction with the DICO to provide infection control QA/QI leadership and support to the team. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain a safe work environment:o Implement, review, apply and actively enforce the clinics safety policies.o Support the safety program by actively looking for opportunities to improve safety practices and evaluate staff for safety practices and ergonomic issues.o Discipline staff when safety policies are violated. Compliance:o Knowledgeable of and compliant with all laws and regulations governing area of responsibility.o Responsible for reporting any potentially non-compliant conduct.o Cooperate fully with our Compliance Officer in upholding our Compliance Plan. Other duties and responsibilities, as required. SUPERVISION: YesResponsibilities: Manage and coach staff, initial and annual Performance Evaluations and disciplinary action as needed. Leadership and modeling of Clinica values. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:A. Education / Experience1. Graduation from an accredited School of Dental Hygiene. 2. Bachelors Degree. 3. Possession of a current Colorado license as a registered dental hygienist. 4. A minimum of 1 year working as a Dental Hygienist is required. B. Knowledge, skills and abilities:1. Working knowledge of all phases of the field of dental hygiene. 2. Skill in the techniques of oral hygiene procedures and the use of equipment, instruments, and materials.3. Knowledge and practice of preventative dentistry and ability to instruct patients individually and in groups. 4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.5. Ability to work in a team environment required. 6. Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must. 7. Excellent coaching skills.8. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Dental Operatory and equipment as well as usual office environment. Ability to travel from clinic to clinic in own vehicle as required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
